Werner Stikine Whitewater Kayak Paddle
The Werner Stikine is an advanced one-piece whitewater kayak paddle designed for river running. Combining Werner’s Ultimate blade design with its Bomber whitewater shaft construction, it offers a buoyant, controlled feel for powerful forward strokes, rolling, bracing and technical manoeuvres.
Choose between a fibreglass Straight Shaft and a carbon Neutral Bent Shaft using the options on this product page.
Buoyant Full-Carbon Blades
The Stikine features buoyant, full-carbon blades designed to provide confident support when rolling and bracing, particularly in aerated rapids.
Its mid-sized, 656 cm² blade area balances dependable power with a faster cadence. Werner recommends this blade size for a broad range of paddlers, including those seeking reduced fatigue during longer rapids.
Smooth and Stable Power
Werner’s dihedral blade design directs water evenly across the blade face, promoting a smooth and stable forward stroke.
Whitewater-specific reinforcement channels allow the Stikine to retain a low-profile back face. According to Werner, this contributes to a quieter catch and effortless release from the water while maintaining the strength needed for whitewater paddling.
The asymmetrical blade shape is designed specifically for river running, supporting forward strokes, manoeuvring and precise control in moving water.
Reinforced for Whitewater Use
The carbon blades incorporate abrasion-resistant Dynel® edges and Kevlar® reinforcement to help protect the paddle against the rigours of a whitewater environment.
The Stikine belongs to Werner’s Ultimate performance range, which prioritises buoyancy, light swing weight and refined on-water performance. Werner advises that its Ultimate paddles are not its most impact-resistant models. Paddlers who prioritise maximum impact resistance over weight and blade performance should consider one of Werner’s Premium whitewater paddles.
Choose Your Shaft
Straight Shaft
The one-piece Straight Shaft uses Werner’s Bomber fibreglass whitewater construction. It combines optimised flex and strength with the familiar feel and unrestricted hand positioning of a conventional straight shaft.
This is the natural choice for paddlers who prefer a traditional grip or greater freedom to alter their hand position.
Straight Shaft details:
- Shaft shape: Straight
- Shaft material: Fibreglass
- Construction: One piece
- Feather: Fixed
- Average paddle weight: 971 g
Neutral Bent Shaft
Werner’s one-piece Neutral Bent Shaft is manufactured from carbon and is designed to support a more ergonomic hand, wrist and forearm position.
The blades and grip sections remain aligned along the same central plane, helping preserve the familiar response of a straight paddle while allowing the wrists to sit in a more neutral position. Moulded indexing also provides defined hand placement and tactile blade-position awareness.
Neutral Bent Shaft details:
- Shaft shape: Neutral Bent
- Shaft material: Carbon
- Construction: One piece
- Feather: Fixed
- Average paddle weight: 1,042 g
