Werner Shuna Kayak Paddle

The Werner Shuna is Werner’s best-selling premium high-angle blade, designed for paddlers who want mid-sized power for strokes in all directions. It is particularly well suited to coastal play and active sea-kayak paddling, while retaining a measured feel through the water for covering longer distances.

A 615cm² blade area places the Shuna in Werner’s mid-sized high-angle category, making it suitable for a wide range of paddlers seeking a responsive performance paddle without an oversized blade.

The Shuna is also one of our best-selling premium paddles and a staff favourite, regularly attracting attention both in the shop and on the water.

Mid-sized high-angle performance

The Shuna’s high-angle blade profile is designed to provide effective purchase during forward strokes while remaining manoeuvrable for directional and linking strokes.

Its versatile blade size makes it a strong option for:

  • Sea kayaking
  • Coastal play
  • Performance-focused touring
  • Higher-angle paddling styles
  • Forward, sweep, draw and bracing strokes
  • Paddlers seeking mid-sized rather than full-sized blade power

Werner describes the Shuna as offering a conservative feel through the water, helping paddlers maintain steady progress over distance while still retaining the power needed for more active paddling.

Premium fibreglass blades

The Shuna features brightly coloured, translucent fibreglass laminate blades. Werner’s Premium Performance construction is designed to provide a combination of low weight, stiffness and durability.

Each blade uses:

  • A mid-sized, high-angle profile
  • An asymmetrical blade shape
  • Werner’s dihedral blade design
  • A custom-shaped, low-profile reinforcement spine

The dihedral is designed to promote smooth and stable forward paddling. The reinforcement spine contributes blade stiffness and strength while supporting manoeuvrability when linking several strokes together.

Smart-View Adjustable ferrule

The two-piece Shuna uses Werner’s Smart-View Adjustable ferrule system.

This system allows the paddle feather to be adjusted while providing a precise connection and a solid feel similar to a one-piece paddle. Its low-profile construction is also designed to avoid exposed fittings that could snag equipment.

The two-piece format makes the paddle more convenient to transport and store.

Straight or Neutral Bent shaft options

The Shuna is available with a choice of shaft configuration:

Straight shaft

The straight-shaft version uses Werner’s premium carbon straight shaft and provides the familiar hand position and direct feel of a conventional kayak paddle.

Werner Neutral Bent shaft

The Neutral Bent shaft uses a shaped grip position intended to provide a different hand and wrist alignment from a conventional straight shaft.

The Neutral Bent option carries an additional cost, which is shown when selected on the product page.
