Werner Powerhouse 1 Piece Straight Shaft Whitewater Paddle
The Werner Powerhouse 1 Piece Straight Shaft is a premium whitewater kayak paddle designed for paddlers who prefer the power and positive engagement of a full-sized river-running blade.
Trusted for demanding whitewater, the Powerhouse combines large 720 cm² fibreglass blades with a straight whitewater fibreglass shaft. Werner identifies it as the larger counterpart to the Sherpa, making it particularly suitable for larger and well-conditioned paddlers who want more blade surface area through each stroke.
Full-Sized River-Running Blades
The Powerhouse features Werner’s full-sized, asymmetrical river-running blade shape. Its generous surface area creates a positive catch and provides substantial power through forward, steering and manoeuvring strokes.
Werner specifically recommends its full-sized blades for larger and well-conditioned paddlers. Those who prefer a smaller or less demanding blade may be better suited to the Werner Sherpa.
Smooth and Stable Through the Water
Werner’s dihedral blade design helps direct water evenly across the blade face. This reduces unwanted flutter and promotes a smooth, stable forward stroke.
A custom-shaped, low-profile reinforcement spine increases blade stiffness and overall strength while retaining the manoeuvrability required when linking strokes together in moving water.
Premium Fibreglass Blade Construction
The brightly coloured translucent fibreglass laminate blades are designed to balance stiffness, swing weight and value within Werner’s Premium Performance range.
Werner describes the construction as providing a combination of light swing weight and stiffness, with fibreglass blades offering a compromise between lower swing weight and cost.
Straight Whitewater Fibreglass Shaft
The Powerhouse uses Werner’s straight whitewater fibreglass shaft. Werner optimises the shaft for flex and strength, with the aim of reducing unnecessary strain while maintaining the reliability required for whitewater paddling.
Standard and small shaft diameters are manufactured, although the options available from current UK stock may vary.
Fixed One-Piece Construction
This version of the Powerhouse uses a fixed one-piece shaft with no adjustable centre joint. Its paddle length, feather angle and control hand are therefore determined at manufacture and cannot be altered during use.
Werner states that:
- R45 is its most popular feather angle for river running
- R30 is commonly chosen for playboating
- Feather angles from 0–90° can be produced in 5° increments
Available UK-stock configurations may represent only a limited selection of Werner’s full manufacturing range, so check the chosen length, feather angle, control hand and shaft diameter before ordering.

Who Is the Werner Powerhouse For?
The Werner Powerhouse is best suited to whitewater kayakers who prefer a large, powerful blade and a positive connection with the water. Its full-sized profile is particularly appropriate for larger or well-conditioned paddlers undertaking river running and other demanding whitewater paddling.
For paddlers who want similar Werner river-running construction with a smaller blade area and a more conservative feel, the Werner Sherpa is the logical alternative.
