Werner Cyprus Carbon Kayak Paddle

The Werner Cyprus is an exceptionally lightweight, high-performance carbon kayak paddle developed for touring paddlers who favour an efficient high-angle stroke.

Available with either a carbon straight shaft or Werner’s carbon-fibre Neutral Bent shaft, it combines buoyant full-carbon foam-core blades with a refined, responsive feel for confident forward strokes, precise manoeuvring and long days on the water.

Its mid-sized blades provide a balanced alternative to larger, more powerful high-angle designs. They deliver dependable acceleration and control without placing the same level of load on the paddler during every stroke.

The Cyprus is an excellent choice for sea kayaking, coastal play, touring and fitness paddling, particularly for paddlers who want responsive high-angle performance in a manageable mid-sized blade.

Choose Your Shaft

Carbon Straight Shaft

The carbon straight shaft provides a familiar, traditional grip with a direct connection between your hands and the blades. Its lightweight construction keeps swing weight low, helping the paddle feel quick and responsive through repeated strokes.

Werner’s straight shaft incorporates subtle indexing and texturing, providing tactile feedback that helps you identify blade orientation without needing to look at the paddle.

Choose the straight shaft when you prefer:

  • A traditional shaft profile
  • The lightest available Cyprus configuration
  • Freedom to reposition your hands along the shaft
  • A familiar and direct paddle feel
  • Subtle shaft indexing

Carbon-Fibre Neutral Bent Shaft

Werner’s carbon-fibre Neutral Bent shaft uses shaped grip sections to place the hands, wrists and forearms in a more naturally aligned paddling position. The pronounced grip shape also provides positive blade indexing, making blade orientation easy to recognise by feel.

Unlike more heavily cranked shaft designs, Werner’s Neutral Bent construction keeps the blades, hand positions and ferrule aligned along the same central axis. This preserves a familiar paddle feel while providing clearly defined hand positions and ergonomic wrist alignment.

Choose the Neutral Bent shaft when you prefer:

  • More naturally aligned hand and wrist positioning
  • Clearly defined hand placement
  • Positive blade indexing
  • Consistent grip positioning throughout the stroke
  • An ergonomic alternative to a traditional straight shaft

The Neutral Bent version is slightly heavier than the straight-shaft model due to its more complex shaped construction.

Buoyant Full-Carbon Foam-Core Blades

The Cyprus uses full-carbon foam-core blades with added volume and buoyancy. This construction creates an exceptionally light, lively feel in the water and helps each blade rise naturally towards the surface at the end of the stroke.

This buoyant response supports smooth recovery and contributes to the Cyprus paddle’s refined feel over longer touring sessions.

The smooth back face allows water to flow cleanly around the blade, promoting quiet entry and exit during forward, reverse and manoeuvring strokes.

Mid-Sized High-Angle Performance

With a blade surface area of 610cm², the Cyprus is designed to provide an effective balance of power, control and efficiency.

Its mid-sized blade profile is suitable for a wide range of paddlers who want the control and responsiveness of a high-angle paddle without the heavier loading associated with a larger power blade.

The Werner Cyprus is particularly well suited to:

  • Sea kayaking
  • Coastal touring and play
  • High-angle forward paddling
  • Bracing and rolling
  • Directional and manoeuvring strokes
  • Fitness paddling
  • Faster-paced touring
  • Longer sessions where low swing weight matters

Smooth and Stable Dihedral Blades

The dihedral power face directs water evenly across both halves of the blade. This helps reduce flutter and produces a smooth, stable feel when power is applied through the forward stroke.

Its asymmetrical shape supports balanced water entry and efficient power throughout the stroke, while the smooth back face promotes clean entry and exit.

Together, these design features give the Cyprus an elegant, controlled feel during both forward paddling and more technical strokes.

Dynel®-Reinforced Blade Edges

The edges of the carbon blades are reinforced with abrasion- and impact-resistant Dynel®. This protective roping material helps defend the vulnerable outer edges against the demanding environments touring and sea kayakers may encounter.

The Cyprus remains part of Werner’s Ultimate-performance range, where minimal weight, blade buoyancy and refined paddling characteristics take priority over maximum impact resistance.

It should therefore be treated as a premium performance paddle and used carefully around rocks, concrete launching areas and abrasive shorelines.

Smart-View™ Adjustable Ferrule

Both shaft versions feature Werner’s Smart-View™ adjustable ferrule, allowing the paddle to separate into two pieces for easier transport and storage.

The ferrule provides a precise and secure connection intended to retain the solid feel of a one-piece paddle. Its streamlined design has no external lever or bulky collar to snag on equipment.

The feather angle can be adjusted in precise 15-degree increments, allowing you to select the blade offset that best suits your paddling style and conditions.

Which Werner Cyprus Shaft Should You Choose?

Choose the carbon straight shaft for the lightest available Cyprus configuration, a traditional grip and greater freedom to reposition your hands.

Choose the carbon-fibre Neutral Bent shaft for clearly defined hand positions, more pronounced blade indexing and a more naturally aligned wrist and forearm position.

Both versions use the same buoyant, mid-sized full-carbon blades and deliver the refined high-angle performance for which the Werner Cyprus is known.

Please note that paddle weights are manufacturer averages and may vary slightly according to paddle length and manufacturing tolerances. Available lengths, shaft diameters and configurations depend on the options currently shown for this UK-stock product.
