Aqua Bound Aerial Major Carbon 1-Piece Whitewater Paddle
The Aqua Bound Aerial Major Carbon is a powerful one-piece whitewater kayak paddle designed for larger paddlers, those in excellent paddling condition or kayakers who want additional blade area for extremely responsive and aggressive manoeuvres.
Its large 700cm² carbon blades provide substantial engagement in the water, making the Aerial Major particularly well suited to paddlers seeking powerful strokes, fast corrections and decisive control on demanding whitewater.
Choose between the Straight Shaft and Crank Shaft options using the product dropdown.
Straight Shaft or Crank Shaft?
Straight Shaft
The Straight Shaft offers flexible hand positioning through its extra-long grip sections, accommodating a wider range of shoulder widths and individual preferences. Its ergonomic grip profile is shaped around the natural form of a closed hand, while a tactile coating helps provide a secure connection to the paddle.
Crank Shaft
The ergonomic Crank Shaft incorporates shaped bends designed to maximise efficiency, control and comfort. It positions the hands in line with the blades and provides defined grip areas for paddlers who prefer the feel and hand alignment of a cranked whitewater paddle.
Both versions use a 100% carbon shaft engineered to balance stiffness and flex between Aqua Bound’s traditional carbon and fibreglass shaft characteristics. This construction is intended to provide responsive power while easing strain on the shoulders.
Large Aerial Major carbon blades
The Aerial Major is the larger blade option within Aqua Bound’s Aerial range. Each blade measures 45.5cm by 19.2cm and has a surface area of 700cm².
Aqua Bound recommends this blade size for:
- Larger-statured paddlers
- Paddlers in excellent physical condition
- Kayakers who require additional surface area
- Highly responsive and aggressive whitewater manoeuvres
The large blade profile produces more resistance than a smaller whitewater blade, so paddlers who favour a gentler catch, reduced loading or a faster cadence may prefer an Aerial Minor model.
Wide, flattened foam spine
Each blade incorporates a wide, flattened foam spine designed to simulate performance qualities associated with both foil-style and compression-moulded blades.
The blade transitions smoothly into the shaft without abrupt edges around the joint. This helps prevent the hands from scraping against sharp transitions during close-control strokes and avoids unnecessary material that could create additional resistance through the water.
Lam-Lok™ reinforced blade edges
Aqua Bound’s patent-pending Lam-Lok™ technology mechanically bonds the laminated blade layers with aramid thread around vulnerable areas of the blade.
This reinforcement is designed to help the blade edges resist:
- Delamination
- Impact
- Abrasion
- Wear from demanding whitewater use
Aqua Bound states that Lam-Lok™ is five to ten times more effective at resisting delamination than its blades without the technology.
Carbon construction and reinforced blade connection
The blades are constructed from carbon fibre with aramid reinforcement, while a reinforced 100% carbon blade-peg insert strengthens the connection between each blade and the shaft.
The insert is engineered to match the stiffness and flex characteristics of the complete paddle, supporting a strong and consistent connection through the blade-to-shaft joint.
A high-tech spread-tow carbon weave is used to increase strength, stiffness and impact resistance while controlling overall weight.
Fixed one-piece construction
The Aerial Major Carbon is a true one-piece whitewater paddle with no centre ferrule or adjustment mechanism. Its length and feather angle are therefore fixed.
This continuous construction suits experienced paddlers who already know their required paddle length, feather angle and shaft preference.
Who is the Aqua Bound Aerial Major Carbon for?
The Aerial Major Carbon is particularly well suited to:
- Larger or physically strong whitewater kayakers
- Paddlers who prefer a large and powerful blade
- Aggressive river running
- Fast corrections and responsive manoeuvres
- Kayakers seeking a one-piece carbon whitewater paddle
- Paddlers who already know their preferred fixed length and feather
